HoD’s Message:

Dr. NAZIA KHURSHID

"You can teach a student a lesson for a day; but if you teach him to learn by creating curiosity, he will continue the learning process as long as he lives." Clay P. Bedford. We at the Department of Biotechnology strive hard to instill a sense of curiosity among the burgeoning minds. Along with the curriculum we also focus on research, placement and overall development of the students. We strongly believe that fostering innovative thinking at the Colleges can pave way for a better future. Our cardinal aim is to produce skilled professionals, academicians, researchers and entrepreneurs in the field of biotechnology. Ultimately, we intend to take initiatives to serve the fruits of science and technology to common man.
The Department hosts National and International level conferences and workshops every year. We look forward to devise new methods to revolutionize the conventional way of teaching by inculcating a scientific spirit among the students. Biotechnology is a diverse field that amalgamates life sciences and engineering with technology.
We hope to continue working hard towards accomplishing our goals of providing competitive and quality education in Biotechnology to the young minds of the valley.

HOD – BioTechnology

About Department:

The Department of Biotechnology/Bioinformatics was established in the year 2007 with the objective of attracting talented and well-trained faculty from diverse disciplines of Biology to impart quality training in Bio-Technology/Bioinformatics education and research. The department maintains a very high standard of training. Publications in high impact journals coupled with the performance of our students in national & international examinations like NET, GATE, ICMR and GRE etc. This Department offers a comprehensive B.Sc Biotechnology Programme for 30 students every year. The Programme is based on an elaborate curriculum aimed to develop and elaborate on concepts from basics in Biotechnology.
Objectives:
The primary objective of the Department is to inculcate scientific temper among the student community. The main objective of the Department is to generate student interest in molecular biology research so that J and K in general and this college in particular can produce scientists of international reputation. Department is doing its bit to prepare fertile scientific brains that can bring laurels to the college as well as to the state. The faculty is striving hard to nurture budding scientific talent by assigning projects and mini research works to the students.
Academic Plan for the year 2016
The current academic session is already started and the class work is in full swing. B.Sc 2nd semester and B.Sc 3rd semester students are attending the classes very enthusiastically and the faculty is also committed to provide a healthy and conceptive academic atmosphere. Teaching plan for all the three classes has already been drafted and the lectures are being delivered as per schedule. By the end of the current month i.e., November 2017, topics for assignments will be allotted to 1st and 2nd semester students. B.Sc 3rd year students will be assigned topics for seminars and poster presentation, for which they will be properly assessed. The department has already procured the chemicals and equipments that will be required for the current academic session. The department is also involved in the constant up gradation of the lab facilities. Moreover, mini research projects will be allotted to students so as to acquaint them with practical problems encountered during research and get to know for themselves the technicalities of research and innovations.
