The Department of Education at Govt. College For Women M.A. Road Srinagar is an excellent provider of quality education and training in making education relevant to the emerging needs of the society. The students of our department are serving in majority of our educational institutions and in other professions. From the beginning the department has made efforts at improving teaching – learning process by imbibing the students with experience for study and growth.

About Department:


The Kashmiri department of the college offers the facility of undergraduate teaching of the Kashmiri language, Phonology and Literature. Kashmiri is the mother tongue of most of the population of Jammu, Kashmir and Muzaffar Abad. It is mostly spoken in the valley of Kashmir and also in some areas outside the valley like Pakistan Administered Kashmir, Ramban, Banihal, Kishtawar, Doda etc. It is a language from Dardic sub-group of the Indo-European language family. The language is close to other Dardic languages spoken in Gilgit (Baltistan) and Northern region of Kargil. But it is the only one of the Dardic languages that has a literature.

The Department of Education was established in the year 1952 with 11 students. At present there are more than fifteen hundred students enrolled in the Department of Education. The Department has produced good results and has contributed a lot in the personality development of students. The Department offers three year degree course having wide range of courses to meet the need of students intending to pursue the career of teaching and educational planning and management. It has enabled them to participate in various curricular and co-curricular activities. The Department is treasured with number of books including educational policies, Encyclopedias, Reports of various committees and commissions.
Our Mission:- The Department of education has a mission to contribute to the maintenance and improvement of qualities at all levels. It has a mission to produce competent teachers, to ensure quality education and good administrators. It makes continuous efforts for improving professional skills by incorporating innovative methods and increase proficiency.

Activities:


  • Orientation Programme for B.A. 1st year students was organized where the subject was introduced to the students of education.
  • Interclass Seminar was organized where the students of all the three classes presented papers on the educational thought of Dr. Allama Iqbal.
  • Papers were presented by the students of B.A. 2nd year on the topic, “Gender Discrimination”
  • One day work shop attended by Prof. Waseema Hamid and Prof. Rifat Aman on RTI organized by UGC – Human Resource Development Centre, University of Kashmir on 1st June 2015.
  • One week workshop attended by Prof. Waseema Hamid on Research Methodology organized by UGC – Human Resource Development Centre, University of Kashmir from 12th September to 18th September 2015.
  • Prof. Waseema Hamid and Prof Rifat Aman attended 3 weeks Refresher course organized by UGC - Human Resource Development Centre, University of Kashmir from 25th May to 16th June 2015.
  • Prof. Rifat Aman attended 3 weeks Refresher course organized by UGC - Human Resource Development Centre, University of Kashmir from 06 February to 26th February 2014.
  • Prof. Waseema Hamid attended 3 weeks Refresher course organized by UGC - Human Resource Development Centre, University of Kashmir from 10th September to 30th September 2013.
  • The Department of Education organized an extension lecture on current trends in education on November 2017. Prof Ajay Kumar from Tata Institute of social Science was the guest lecturer.
