HoD’s Message:

Prof. Sabiha Durrani

The scope of Psychology is vast and it has applicability in almost every sphere of life. Psychology teaches us not only to know about one’s behavior but also to understand it fully and help oneself so as to live an effective and adaptive life.
The department apart from teaching and practical work is running a counseling cell (SOLACE). It is a “help” provided to the students having any sort of behavioral and adjustment problems. They are provided with an opportunity to talk freely about their issues and accordingly suggested the ways to overcome them.
Workshops and programmes are organized by the department, in collaboration with outside agencies on different issues like drug de-addiction, depression, stress and its management etc, in order to create awareness among the students.

About Department:

The department of psychology was established in the year 1973 and initially was run by only 1 faculty Member and 30 students were enrolled. Since then it has grown and expanded both in terms of no of students and no of faculty members. At present we have four permanent faculty members and two non teaching staff members. The no of students has increased to almost 1300. The department is running an undergraduate course in psychology. Apart from theory, the practical work is also conducted; students are also provided the first hand knowledge about various perspectives of psychology. By arranging visits to Psychiatric hospitals, Drug De-addiction centers they get an opportunity to interact with the Patients and inmates. Students are required to formulate a detailed report on such visits.
